Not a great experience. Asked if they had gluten free options and the girl stared at me weird and then said yeah they do. I asked if they could change gloves and keep food separate while preparing and they said yes but didn’t communicate it to the back people. They didn’t change gloves and they prepared the lettuce burger with a regular bun burger side by side. Didn’t feel confident in no cross contamination.

The usual celiac five guys experience. Staff is well trained and can do a lettuce wrapped bun. Fries in dedicated fryer. Obviosuly not as safe as a sit down restaurant especially if busy but I had no issues.

I love Five Guys! No, they don't have a GF bun but the burger in a lettuce wrap is so delicious that I don't miss the bun at all. They have a separate grill for the buns so the burgers will not have CC and as long as you let them know you have celiac or are intolerant they will change gloves and take precautions. They also have a dedicated fryer so the fries are safe too! Yummm!

Separate fryer for fries. Very careful when preparing a burger and putting it in a bowl. No GF buns. Tell them you have an allergy. They will change gloves. Eaten here many times and have not been glutened

My first visit here so I asked a few questions: they do have a dedicated fryer, they do have separate grill areas to cook buns and to cook meat, and they will change gloves to make your burger. I told them I had a “gluten allergy” asked for a burger “bunless” (as written on the menu) and he asked if I’d like it in a lettuce wrap instead, and I said yes. This Five Guys is very small and you can see every part of the cooking and wrapping process. When I went to wait for my food I mentioned my gluten allergy to the cook too. He prepared my lettuce wrap in a different part of the counter, and then after handling some buns for another order, promptly changed his gloves to wrap my burger. It was nice to be able to stand there and communicate with him and be able to watch. Fries were great, love to see a dedicated fryer!
It seemed like there could be potential for cross contamination with a lot of toppings so I just stuck with cheese. Heads up that they use peanut oil in the fryer and have loose peanuts to eat while you’re waiting so this is a no go for anyone with peanut allergies!

Burgers and buns grilled on separate grills. Nothing to fry but French fries, so those are also safe. A manager followed our GF order the entire way, and all employees acknowledged that there was an allergy order.

Five guys is one of my go-to’s when it comes to fast food. They only cook fries on the frier so they’re not cross contaminated. I get a burger on a lettuce wrap and haven’t had any cross contamination issues! I would recommend not ordering sauce (like ketchup/mayo) because it’s contaminated from being spread on buns. They have sauce packets available instead

The cashier was very kind, and pointed out how the fries were in their own dedicated fryers and far away from the grill where they toast bread. They also had containers where you can make a bowl. I put beef, mushrooms and green peppers with ketchup in mine and fries. Taste was good, and measures were pretty good. Could there be CC? Possibly, but pretty good for a chain in the south.

You can get any burger in a bowl or in a lettuce wrap. There fries are naturally gluten free and the only thing fried in the fryer.

Are there last night. Took my allergy seriously. The cashier (who I think was also the manager) made sure the cooks knew to change gloves. He even moved my foil bowl to the fry table until the patty was ready. He knew what celiac disease was and how to keep me safe. Very impressed! Eat here with ease.

They were extra careful when k mentioned celiac. Gloves changed, new area to make my lettuce wrap burger and it came flagged. Only fries go in fryer

As of 5/9/24…. Currently under construction but usually these are great places to go (get a lettuce wrap or bowl and tell them you have an “allergy” and they will be careful and change gloves). They only fry fries so they are safe. Hope they are back soon!

The only thing they fry are potatoes No seasonings on meats, dedicated side for the meat versus the buns No GF bun but they do offer lettuce wrap, and a bowl option No sauce or additives on grilled vegetables. Only cross-contamination I saw was when building the hamburgers. But very willing to change gloves.

Went here before leaving on a trip. BIG MISTAKE! The lady at the register had a blank stare as we tried to explain to her my Celiac/severe gluten allergy. She spoke to the cook in Spanish. He nodded and said ok, no gluten. Within 10 minutes of eating I could tell I had been glutened. Made my trip miserable but it was my fault. I should have not eaten it. I’m new to this and am still naive to believe people will understand.

Refused to even serve me they said they can’t prevent any cross contamination even though the only gluten containing item in this location is the buns. Wouldn’t change gloves or utensils or anything just told me no.

April 26, 2014. These guys handle the 'Allergy burger' very well. Ask for it by that name, they'll know how to treat your food prep. They have a dedicated frier and make a mean lettuce wrapped burger. I always order extra lettuce and they don't fall apart. I never have an issue with cross-contamination at this chain.

I had a good experience here. They were quick to share with me how they prepare burgers without cross contamination risk. I was able to double check that their fries and fryers were GF. They have only a couple menu items that actually have gluten, so risk is minimal as long as they are careful with the bun. I think they have a GF bun, but I just got it wrapped in lettuce and it was delicious. I will be back here again.

Def do not follow cross contamination up to par for celiacs. Watched the guy make my kids gluten burger and go right into the French fry pile and touch with his hands into the cup. Also felt like I was a bother when asking about gluten free options (they have a lettuce wrap or burger bowl for options).
It was great- dedicated fryer

I’ve gone three times in two months and it’s been great every time. I tell them “allergy warning, I have celiac’s”. I order mine on lettuce (they do a really great job at wrapping the burger in lettuce), with everything on it.
I then inform them that my spouse would like a normal bacon burger on a bun. The staff has always reassured me and I hear them tell each other “allergy!” while cooking. They’ve always put my burger in a different bag marked “***ALLERGY***” and there was a red sticker on the tin foil of my burger.
If you’ve never been to a Five Guys, they have a very limited menu of just burgers (bacon, cheese, or plain) in three sizes, French fries (plain or Cajun), and milkshakes.
The only gluten items on the menu are the buns and malt. The chocolate shakes do not automatically come malted, so there’s never been a worry for me there.

Big fan of Five Guys because they have a gluten free fryer (they don't make any fried items with gluten) and their fries are deliciously fresh. I've been asked if I had any food allergies here before I could declare my celiac and I feel good about their kitchen handling. Burgers are gluten free as a lettuce wrap, a little drippy here but worth it. Great food!
It says there hasn't been a review in two years so I'm updating this one 4/15/24! Still haven't gotten cross contaminated here through the years! Grab a burger!

I have severe celiac disease. I’ve eaten here multiple times and have never had a reaction. I always get the Bacon Cheeseburger with the lettuce wrap (since there’s no GF bun option) and an order of fries and they’re both DELICIOUS! As far as I know, the fries are the only thing fried in the fryers since there’s no other fried menu item offered; they’re fried in peanut oil though if anyone has a peanut allergy too.

I’m glad others seem to have had a good experience but I had quite the opposite.
Upon ordering, the guy at the cash register was less than caring about my situation and told me “we always change our gloves.” When I ask was the protocols were. I tried to advocate for myself.
Then, I watched the cook and she did change her gloves and then immediately touched a bun and then my lettuce wrap. I knew instantly that this was not a safe place for me.
After all that, they put the one burger we ordered with a bun (for my non-gf husband) into the fries- like seriously? I’ve never had that happen ever. Always a dedicated fry bag.
The current staff is NOT allergy/celiac knowledgable and I would not recommend going here.

As of this review, the only items that go in the fryer are fresh cut potatoes (fries), so those are safe. Hamburger patties are quality, no filler beef. I either choose a lettuce wrap or just the patties, as they do not offer gf buns, which is ok with me.
